News & Events

►  The GSUMC Book Club will meet Tuesday, February 28 at 7p.m.. We are reading Heni Nouwen’s “Return of the Prodigal Son.” We hope you will join us.

►  LARC—the church community will be having the Lenten Soup Luncheons beginning Wednesday, February 29, at noon at Messiah Lutheran Church.  Everyone is invited to attend these luncheons and Lenten lessons. Please note: the final luncheon on March 28 will be at the 1st Congregational Church and not Markey Church as previously published in our February Shepherd’s Crook newsletter.

►  Sign up in the gathering area!  Bring soup or bread or just sign up; we need a head count to have enough soup.  GSUMC’s annual Soup & Bread Dinners are on Wednesday evenings during Lent beginning February 29 at 6 p.m.  We share soup and bread at 6 p.m. and then at 7 p.m. we go into the sanctuary for our DVD Lenten study, “Final Words from the Cross” by Adam Hamilton.  We hope you will sign up & join us!

Unfinished Project Day is March 3.  Read the February 2012 Newsletter, and find out all about this special Saturday.

Cross Connection Bowling Event:  Sunday, March 4 from 3-5 p.m. at Fred’s.  See John McKay to sign up.  This will be instead of our regular Sunday meeting.

Any Interest in Car Pooling to the Bishop’s Day Event, March 10? Judy will keep a list in the office of interested attendees, and then you can arrange with each other to park your cars at GSUMC and carpool to Saginaw together.

Mission Trip Opportunity!  Have you ever thought about participating in a mission trip? Cross Connection Youth will be serving in Appalachia June 10-17, 2012 and will need some adults to accompany them and work along side them.  Also, we may need scholarship monies to send some of our kids.  Can you help?  Please see John McKay if you are interested.

We're planning an Adult Mission Trip to the UP this summer at God’s Country Cooperative Parish, from June 10-17, 2012. Please see Martha Clapp if you are interested in serving on a Mission Trip in 2012.

WANTED: used / old, button down Oxford shirts for Sunday School kids.  We will use these as ‘painting smocks.’  Questions, please see Tracey Morton at 275-9014. Thanks so much.

Are you good with figures? Do you have accounting experience?  Want to serve God and Good Shepherd in a unique way?  We are looking for a church treasurer. Kaylynn Anderson is stepping down, and we need a replacement. Will you prayerfully consider serving in this capacity and sharing your gifts? Please see Pastor Eric if you are interested.
Don Cox ‘crafted’ this beautiful WELCOME CENTER for us. Be sure to stop and see it in the gathering area of the church. Thank you Don! This lovely piece is sure to have a lot of use for us in the coming years.

The Living Stones new prayer lists are at the Welcome Center.  Our ministry consists of 38 faithful prayer warriors who daily pray for others in our Good Shepherd family.  Each Living Stone team member receives this prayer list with the names of 5 or 6 members/family. In our private daily prayer time, we focus our prayers on each listed person asking the Lord’s blessing on their lives.  If you would like to join this prayer ministry, or if you want to know who is praying for YOU, see Gay Dimock or Reva Love.
“...and now you are living stones for God’s use in building His house.”  —1 Peter 2:5

What is a Prayer Pocket?  It is a small holder in which to place your hopes, fears and concerns or whatever you would like to turn over to God’s care.  It is the perfect size for a daily devotional booklet such as the Upper Room. These pockets are available for you to give to a friend or take for yourself as a reminder that all things can be given to God.  You can find them on the Welcome Table.

The Hospitality and Facility team would welcome the donation of juice and cookies for the fellowship hour. Perhaps your team could help ours?  When the baking urge hits you, why not share with us?  Any questions? Please contact Judy English or Barb Holtcamp.  We so appreciate you!

To place a prayer request on the Prayer Chain, please email or call Laurice Tanner at 821-9014.

The Shepherding Team invites you to visit the Prayer Room.  Not only is it open every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. but is always available anytime the church doors are open for you to come and enjoy a quiet place to converse with God.
