MAY 2018
...I was born and came into the world for this reason: to testify to the truth. Whoever accepts the truth listens to my voice. What is truth? Pilate asked.
John 18:37-38 (CEB)
Yes, Jesus was sent to testify to the truth. To set the children of God on the right path. To clarify, if you will, the truth in which God created the universe! Simply put, TRUTH is the reason why Jesus NEVER hid from the Cross. Christ was clearly settled on the fact that He would not be conquered!
When God created everything we were created from the same womb, if you will. Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Joseph and Mary, like you and me, all from the same womb and part of one family. The Bible makes this clear, "Then God said, 'Let us make humanity in our image to resemble us so that they may take charge of the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and all crawling things on earth.' God created humanity in God's own image, in the divine image God created them, male and female God created them." (Gen 1:26-27 CEB) So the human family, along with God and the whole creation forms one family, one peace, one whole-ness, if you will!
However, throughout history this wholeness has been threatened. It started in the Garden with the Tempter. It continued with Abraham and Sarah. It happened with Mary and Joseph when they were tempted to turn away from the vision God had given them. And yes, it even happened to Jesus when he faced the cross. Jesus prayed, "My Father, if it's not possible that this cup be taken away unless I drink it, then let it be what you want." (Mt 26:42 CEB) But in all these situations, the vision was never lost! In every case the temptation was overcome, with God's help, and the vision was passed on to the future generations of this common family.
Jesus never hid in fear! Jesus never fell prey to fear's poisonous work. Though many did, including those who one day adored him and the next day they shouted "Crucify him!" Fear is the absence of trust. You know, it's perhaps too easy for us to reflect on the actions and behavior of Jesus and not believe we too are capable of the same... After all, He was the Messiah! OK, what about Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Joseph and Mary, Moses, and even Joshua. Let's take Joshua, the reluctant perhaps initially fearful successor to Moses.
Joshua prayed to God because he did not feel worthy of the calling... GOD OVERCAME THE FEAR... and God said to Joshua, "Be brave and strong, because you are the one who will help this people take possession of the land, which I pledged to give their ancestors." Do not allow fear to drive you to do things you know do not please God. Pray for a Joshua heart and allow God to overcome the fear and you too will be a help to His people.
